A drugstore pregnancy test is convenient, but unless the test is negative, you’ll need proof of pregnancy to verify viability (if the pregnancy is progressing) and to confirm how far along you are.

If you think you might be pregnant, The Hope Center in Boone, NC, can conduct a medical-grade urine pregnancy test. This test detects the presence of the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which the body produces during pregnancy. No pesky finger pricks or needles necessary.

Proof of Pregnancy

While a positive urine pregnancy test is a good indication of pregnancy, only an ultrasound can determine the viability and placement of the pregnancy. A limited obstetric ultrasound can be performed as early as 5.5 weeks from a woman’s last menstrual period (LMP). It is the only definitive way to diagnose an intrauterine pregnancy and simultaneously rule out an ectopic pregnancy.

During an ultrasound scan, a medical professional will ensure the pregnancy is occurring inside the uterus, look for and measure fetal heart tones, and measure the fetus to determine the estimated due date (EDD). This scan is quick, painless, and provides valuable information you deserve regarding your health, and aids in your decision-making process. It is important to note that we provide limited ultrasounds and do not diagnose fetal abnormalities or gender.

Note: If you are considering abortion, an ultrasound is an essential step. Women at our center are often further along than they think. Women who are more than 11 weeks pregnant, have an ectopic pregnancy, or have certain health conditions are not eligible for the abortion pill. We do not provide or refer for abortion services, but we can answer questions you have about medication abortions and the types of abortion clinic procedures

In some cases, the ultrasound does not show a viable pregnancy. If you are experiencing a miscarriage, you should not take abortion pills or schedule an abortion clinic procedure. Our medical team is well-trained to support you and refer you for further diagnostic evaluation and care. Choosing an abortion without all the facts and without having an inside glimpse into what is going on inside your body is both unwise and dangerous. A limited obstetric scan can save you from the possible physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual effects that an abortion decision can have on your overall health.
