Second Trimester Abortion Procedures

Note: After the end of the first semester, medical abortions are no longer an option.

Dilation & Curettage (D & C)

Also referred to as vaccum aspiration or suction curettage, D & C is a surgical abortion procedure performed between 13 to 15 weeks gestation.

Dilation & Evacuation (D & E)

D & E is a surgical abortion procedure performed between 15 to 21 weeks gestation.

Induction Abortion

In this rarely used abortion procedure, potassium chloride, salt water or urea is injected into the amniotic sac. Along with this, pitocin is injected intravenously and prostaglandins are inserted into the vagina.
