What is an obstetric ultrasound?
An obstetric ultrasound uses sound waves to visualize & determine the condition of a pregnant woman & her embryo or fetus.
Why do you perform ultrasound examinations?
Ultrasound exams performed by Hope Pregnancy Resource Center's medical professional are administered in order to:
- Confirm pregnancy
- Detect fetal heart beat
- Determine fetal age
- Determine due date
- Determine the location of pregnancy (intrauterine/ectopic)
Please note that the limited obstetric ultrasound examination is not intended to diagnose any abnormalities or problems.
Who will conduct the ultrasound?
Obstetric ultrasound examinations will be provided by the HPRC nurses who are trained in limited obstetrical ultrasound. The nurses are female and report to the HPRC’s medical director, who reviews each client’s chart. If the ultrasound appears abnormal, an obstetrician will then be consulted.
How should I prepare for an ultrasound?
You do not need to do anything to prepare for your ultrasound. We do recommend that you wear a loose-fitting two-piece outfit for the examination as this will prevent you from having to re-adjust your clothing during the ultrasound exam. |
